What to tell us

  • The Vidyst version, from Vidyst › About, and your macOS version
  • For the remote: your iPhone or iPad model and its iOS version
  • What you did, what you expected and what happened instead
  • A screenshot or a photo of the screen, if there is one to take

Vidyst for Mac

The usual questions.

The studio itself: getting it installed, what it needs from macOS, and what your plan covers.

  • Installing and permissions

Install steps and what macOS asks for are on the download page. If macOS says the app can't be opened, right-click Vidyst in Applications and choose Open.

  • Plans and billing

Start a trial, change plan or cancel in your account. What each plan includes is on the pricing page.

  • Updates

Vidyst checks for new versions in the background and never interrupts a show to install one. You can turn both off in Vidyst › Settings › General.

  • Streaming and recording

A destination that won't go live is usually the platform refusing it; the error Vidyst shows comes straight from them. Recordings survive a crash or restart up to the moment they stopped.

Vidyst Remote for iPhone and iPad

Your deck, pairing and what to do when it goes quiet.

Vidyst Remote is a free controller for Vidyst on your Mac. It goes live, records, switches scenes and works the mixer over your local network. No video comes to the device.

What you need

  • iPhone or iPad running iOS 17 or later
  • A Mac running Vidyst, signed in, on the same Wi-Fi
  • Allow Vidyst Remote turned on in Vidyst › Settings › Remote (it is on by default)

Pairing, step by step

  1. 01

    Turn Remote on

On the Mac, open Vidyst › Settings › Remote and check that Allow Vidyst Remote is on. It is on by default while you are signed in.

  2. 02

    Pick your Mac

Open Vidyst Remote on your iPhone or iPad and tap your Mac in the list of Macs on this network. Allow local network access the first time iOS asks.

  3. 03

    Match the code

Both screens show the same six digits. Check they match, then click Allow on the Mac.

  4. 04

    You're paired

The deck opens. From then on the device finds that Mac and reconnects on its own.

Want to see it first? Tap Try the Demo on the connect screen. Every key works against a studio inside the app, with no Mac involved.

If something isn't working

  • My Mac isn't in the list

Check that both are on the same Wi-Fi, that Vidyst is open and signed in, and that Allow Vidyst Remote is on in Settings › Remote. Guest networks and networks that isolate clients from each other block the connection.

  • iOS never asked for local network access

Turn it on in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › Vidyst Remote. Without it the app cannot see your Mac at all.

  • It still can't find the Mac

Tap Enter IP Address on the connect screen and type the address shown in Vidyst › Settings › Remote.

  • The keys are dim and it says Reconnecting

The Mac is asleep, quit, or off the network. The deck comes back with the Mac's current state as soon as it is reachable, and nothing you pressed while it was away is sent late.

  • It says Not connected

The device was removed on the Mac, or Vidyst is signed out there. Sign in on the Mac, then tap Pair Again on the device and allow it once more.

  • It says Update needed

The Mac app and the remote are too far apart in version to talk to each other. Update both to the latest version.

  • I want to unpair

On the Mac: Settings › Remote › Devices › Remove. On the iPhone or iPad: open the connection status and choose Forget This Mac.

Common questions

No. The iPhone and iPad app is a free download and works with the plan or trial you already have. It only controls Vidyst on a Mac you are signed in to.
